Previously Disadvantaged Individual Scholarships

 

CBM Training, a South African leader in the supply of short duration training courses,  awards two scholarships annually which are aimed at developing Previously Disadvantaged Individuals (PDI). Each PDI Scholarship consists of a RPL Learnership that equips the successful candidates with real business skills, making them more effective and promotable within their organisations. We offer a Management and a Secretarial scholarship, which are each valued at more than R 20, 000 Excluding VAT.

Management Scholarship

CBM Training’s Management Scholarship consists of a RPL Learnership and is offered to one Previously Disadvantaged Individual per year. The Managerial Scholarship consists of a Generic Management NQF Level 4 Learnership that will run during the course of 2020. This will empower the successful candidate with the necessary practical business and managerial skills to assist with their advancement in their profession. The learnership in our Managerial Scholarship has been carefully selected to provide the maximum benefit to managers.

Application criteria for the Management Scholarship are as follows:

  • That the applicant is from a previously disadvantaged group.
  • That they have been in full-time employment with their current company for a minimum of one year.
  • The applicant is currently in a management position 
  • The applicant has at least a matric certificate
  • The applicant must have passed English and Maths

Secretarial Scholarship

The Secretarial Scholarship consists of a RPL Learnership and is offered to one Previously Disadvantaged Individual per year. The Secretarial Scholarship consists of a Business Administration Services NQF Level 4 Learnership that will run during the course of 2020. This will empower the successful candidate with the necessary practical administrative and secretarial skills to assist with their advancement in their profession. The learnership in our Secretarial Scholarship has been carefully selected to provide the maximum benefit to administrators and secretaries.

Application criteria for the Secretarial Scholarship are as follows:

  • That the applicant is from a previously disadvantaged group.
  • That they have been in full-time employment with their current company for a minimum of one year.
  • Candidates must be currently working in a secretarial or administrative profession.
  • The applicant has at least a matric certificate
  • The applicant must have passed English and Maths

What do the PDI Scholarships include?

Both CBM Training scholarships include the learnership costs, assessment and moderation costs (portfolios of evidence and 2 assessment opportunities), lunches on the day (Please Note: an extra charge of R350 Excluding VAT per session/day will be made on all Kosher, Halaal or Vegan meals), full course documentation and certificates of attendance. Candidates will be responsible for their own travel to the course venue and arranging their leave with their company. Please also take note of the following additional terms and conditions that will apply to the winners of the scholarships:

  • If the specified submission date is not met and an extension is required there will be an additional charge of R500 excl. VAT per late submission
  • If an extension is required due to medical or unforeseen work requirements, a valid doctors note or letter from your manager will need to be emails to CBM Training
  • All portfolios are to be hand delivered to CBM Training – 60 Civin Drive Pellmeadow Office Park, 1st Floor, Block B
  • If a candidate misses a session with a valid medical excuse, they can attend the next running of that session at an additional charge of R500 excl. VAT to cover venue costs
  • Each candidate is given two opportunities for submissions to be assessed for each portfolio. If after these, they are still not assessed as Competent, there will be a cost for each further assessment of R950 excl. VAT per module
  • If a candidate needs additional help with completing a portfolio, one-on-one sessions are available on request with the assessor at a charge of R500 excl. VAT per hour plus travel costs
  • Candidates need to have a laptop and mentor within the organisation to assist with the Learnership portfolio of evidence
  • Leanerships scheduled to start in March 2020
  • As stated above, there will be an additional charge of R350 per day/session for Halaal, Vegan and Kosher meals

Deadline to Apply and Announcement of the Scholarship Winner:

The closing date for applications is midnight 30 September 2019. The top 5 candidates for each scholarship will be short-listed and contacted by 19 October 2019. Short-listed candidates will enter the final round where they will be required to complete a questionnaire and motivate why they should be awarded a PDI Scholarship. The winner of each Scholarship (Management and Secretarial) will be announced via email and on the CBM Training Facebook page by 19 November 2019.
